Emerging Therapeutic Options for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (More Info)

Description: This Local CME Speaker Program Series focuses on the most recent advances in the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). TSC is characterized by the development of benign tumors in many organs, including the kidneys, heart, and skin. Also, abnormalities of cell migration and function in the brain can lead to many neuropsychological manifestations, including seizures, autism, and learning difficulties. With the wide clinical spectrum of disease, the various treatment options for patients with TSC vary greatly. Additionally, since TSC genetic mutations affect the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, therapeutic interventions that utilize mTOR inhibitors have recently been approved and offer a new treatment option for patients with TSC. This activity is designed to educate participants on the pathophysiology and clinical diagnostic features of TSC, as well as current and emerging therapeutic options for patients with this disease.
