Description: Of the 1 million joint replacements performed yearly in the US, about 10% will fail. Allergy to metal constituents and bone cement are frequent causes, but the diagnosis is difficult to establish. This seminar will discuss the frequency and clinical presentations of joint failure, review the kinds of allergies that can cause joint failure, and demonstrate how to acquire the necessary information to successfully revise the prosthesis.
